Skywarn Activation Status
I personally want to welcome you to the Cocke County Amateur Radio Emergency Service & Skywarn website. You will find a wealth of information concerning Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES), and the National Weather Service SKYWARN Spotter network. For more information on both programs please check out the links above.
You will also find information on our bi-monthly meetings, which are held the last Tuesday of January, March, May, July, September, and November @ 6:30 pm.
We also invite the CCARES members to check-in with the Jefferson County, TN ARES (JCARES) net that meets every Monday night at 6:00pm ET on the 146.730 repeater.
We do not have a weekly net established, but we will be gathering up information from the CCARES members via email response to see if they are willing to start a simplex net or possibly a repeater net in the near future.
I would like to take a brief moment to encourage all Amateur Radio licensees that live in Cocke, Greene, Hamblen, Jefferson, and Sevier Counties to sign up for CCARES. We want you to be a part of a push to revamp and rebuild our CCARES organization. You do not have to live in Cocke county to volunteer. Please click on the About Us – CCARES link above to get more information on the requirements for joining CCARES. If you would like to Join CCARES please click on the Join Us link above to register.
Our primary purpose as a organization is to help support our local communities by providing our knowledge, expertise and hardware as trained radio operators to local agencies in need of communications support during an emergency. ARES in the U.S. has Memorandums of Understanding with organizations including the American Red Cross, National Weather Service, Department of Homeland Security, Citizen Corps, Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials-International, National Communications System, National Association of Radio and Telecommunications Engineers Inc., Salvation Army, Society of Broadcast Engineers, Quarter Century Wireless Association Inc. and REACT International Inc.
